FINEL 2D - Ship induced flow

The animation above shows a sailing vessel and its impact on the water level. The still water level is equal to CD+0.5 m. The ship has been modelled as a propagating pressure field.

First a shockwave is generated at the bow of the vessel which is associated to spinning up of the model. Once this shockwave leaves the model domain, the water surface lowering around the vessel caused by the return flow, is clearly visible. Since the ship does not sail along the centre channel axis, the pattern of water surface lowering is asymmetric.
