FINEL 2D

Within the finite element model package of Svašek Hydraulics, FINEL2D is the two-dimensional numerical flow model.

Based on the shallow water equations, FINEL2D simulates flow and transport processes in rivers and coastal waters. The finite element method offers almost unlimited flexibility in grid generation. The models possibility for particle tracking gives a proper image of residence time and refreshment of the water in harbour basins and sheltered areas.

Depending on the expected variations of the dominant flow direction, FINEL2D can be applied either as horizontal 2DH or as vertical 2DV model.

FINEL2D contains a suitable procedure for drying and flooding of tidal flats. FINEL2D is linked directly to the wave model SWAN to count for wave driven currents.

MORFIN modules for calculation of both cohesive and non-cohesive sediment transport and the consequent changes in seabed level can be directly linked to the hydrodynamic model.

For three dimensional applications the non hydrostatic model FINEL 3D is available.
