The 'Veerhaven' at Numansdorp, the Netherlands is an old ferry harbour which should be
adapted to accomodate a new marina. Due to the alignment of the harbour with respect
to the main wave directions, rather choppy waves persist in the harbour, especially
during SW storm.
To improve this situation, the breakwaters will be extended with
sheet pile walls. HARES was used to design an optimum layout. The total length
of the breakwater extension could be reduced to a minimum, maintaining the entrance
accessible. Shown are wave disturbances in the present and adapted situation,
illustrating the improvement achieved.
