30 years at Svašek HydraulicsSeptember 2007
September 20th, 1977 was his first day at Svašek Hydraulics. On the same day in 2007 Bram Bliek celebrated his 30th anniversary. He started as a junior engineer, just graduated at Delft University. Heading the morphology team during construction of the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier was a major task during the first years. For Bram, 30 years at Svašek stand for 30 years of living with water and sediment. In 1984 he became the managing director and since 2003 he is also the chairman at Svašek Hydraulics. br>
Multi processor 'cluster' computer upgradeApril 2007
Svašek Hydraulics has upgraded its computing capacity by expanding the in house multi processor machine by a series of 64 bits processors: a 4 x dual-core Opteron 885 (16 GB memory). The cluster machine is used both in parallel and in sequential mode for heavy hydrodynamic and morphodynamic computations. The upgrade of its cluster machine is the fourth in a line since Svašek Hydraulics started in house parallel computing in 2000.
Battjes-award MSc graduation Lynyrd de WitJanuary 2007
Lynyrd de Wit, employee at Svašek Hydraulics, has received the Battjes-award for best water graduate in 2006 at the faculty Civil Engineering of the TU-Delft. During graduation a 2D lagrangian SPH computer-code has been developed. SPH was found to be capable to accurately simulate difficult free surface problems like a dam break, breaking waves and the water jet over a sharp weir. For more information about SPH click here
