Svašek Hydraulics has purchased an AWACNovember 2011
Svašek Hydraulics recently has purchased a Nortek Acoustic Wave and Current (AWAC) 1 MHz profiler together with a Campbell OBS3+ turbidity sensor. In June and July the AWAC has been used in four 13-hours surveys in two harbours in Zeeland, The Netherlands. To that end it has been mounted on an aluminum pole and used in vessel-mounted mode. At present, the AWAC and the OBS are mounted stand-alone in a frame and are deployed on the bottom of the Braakmanhaven in Terneuzen for a 6 weeks non-stop survey of vertical velocity profiles and near bed turbidity levels.
The results of these measurements are used in the calibration of a FINEL3D model of the Western Scheldt focussing on currents and sediment transport into the Braakmanhaven.

Block dam Maasvlakte 2 over halfwayOctober 2011
Maasvlakte 2 is the expansion of the port of Rotterdam. A new top European location for port activities and industry is being created immediately to the west of the present port and industrial area. When the construction of Maasvlakte 2 began in 2008, the sea there was 17 metres deep.
The block dam is an essential part of the hard seawall that will protect Maasvlakte 2 in the northwest against the forces of the sea. Since April 2011 the Blockbuster has placed almost 2 kilometres of new block dam. Over half of the 3.5-km breakwater is now in the sea. A total of 20,000 concrete blocks of 2.5 by 2.5 by 2.5 metres, weighing 40 tonnes each, will be reused from the block dam of the existing Maasvlakte. 10,000 concrete blocks have already been laid in place.
To celebrate this milestone the contractor, PUMA, has placed a concrete block with the 'hands' of the employees of the PUMA on 30 September 2011.
Since 2006 Svašek Hydraulics is part of the PUMA and is involved in the design process and construction aspects of Maasvlakte 2.
