Sand closures Eastern Scheldt,
The Netherlands

In the Eastern Scheldt several dams are constructed for reasons of environmental protection, safety and water control. In these dams at three locations closure gaps are constructed, that finally are closed by hydraulic fill (sand closures). During the largest closure (Krammer) a dredging capacity of approx 22,000 m3/hour was present during the last (most critical) days of the closure.

The scope items of the study are:

  1. Support of Rijkswaterstaat during the design process
  2. Development of design methods
  3. Assistance of Rijkswaterstaat in the control during execution
  4. Evaluation of the sand closures and the applied design methods
  5. Editing of report "Sand Closures, state of the art 1988"
