De Stadswerven - Dordrecht

Where the rivers Beneden Merwede, Noord and Oude Maas flow together thirty hectares of former harbour/industrial area is being redeveloped into a new city centre area next to the old centre of Dordrecht: De Stadswerven.

The project includes a realignment of the waterfront and may affect flow patterns and discharge of the rivers and flood risks in extreme conditions.

With the numerical model WAQUA the impact of De Stadswerven on the water levels and flow patterns of the river are calculated and the layout of the scheme is optimised. In this layout the realisation of the project will even have a positive effect on the discharge of high river floods.
